Teehee... Holiday!!!

|Listening to: Teman Tapi Mesra - Ratu

And did I go on holiday with a bang. My last day of work was spent invigilating Revision Tests. So naturally, I didn't do anything prior to classes' hours.

Tough luck on both classes, of course. But I don't worry too much about them, they're both tough classes, too. Raise the bar and they jump right past.
Almost laughed out loud when Novianty came in, still complaining about the difference between MUST and HAVE TO. Having been a student myself, I was quite sure it was simply some kind of virginal anxiety - you know, a matter of post-first-exposure. And sure thing, she aced the questions about those obligatory auxiliaries.

On to the football scene, Inzaghi has been on fire and I missed the whole thing. Aries had been badgering me about Darling Pippo's repeated success and I was at sea.
I wasn't sure about Liverpool's track but from the way my student Peter had been lifting his nose at me (he's a big fan of Chelsea; was very annoying when they flattened down Liverpool 4-1 recently), I guess Liverpool hasn't been doing very good.

Madrid isn't doing pretty good either. They lost to La Coruna, 1-3. Man! This week, it's against Betis. We'll see. With Joaquin in Betis, I have always had great respect and fear towards the Sevillans.

Having exhausted all the TOEFL test here I'm now attacking the SAT Test. Sad, huh? ^___^
Anyway, I had always thought that SAT is a basic test that include English and also Math. Didn't know that it's English at its most severe ^__^
Wait. I just saw that it says SAT Verbal Test. So does it mean that there are other test(s) comprising SAT? Someone do let me know.

Anyway, am having fun now *rolls eyes* so see you guys later. Adios!

It's A Tough World Out There

|Listening to: Better Man - Robbie WIlliams

These are some of the entries my students have on their daily journal I assign them to make:

Today, I had the last mid term test at my campus. So now I' am free, he he...

My mother said, "She will give me a present which will make me more handsome in my birthday".

Busy day, oh my gosh I can't [do] everything alone in the same day, oh my god I feel tired, finally I found a chair to seat!!!

God has given eyes to look at you
hand to pray for you
mind to remember you
heart to love you
and legs to kick you if you forget me..

Those are direct quotes so in case of any mistakes, do accept my sincere apology but I want them fresh from the oven ^__^
Lately they vary a bit but initially, most of them were complaining about having too much to do. Assignments, homeworks, exams, courses, extra-curicullar activities, gosh... no wonder one of my students said my gosh a lot.

Even young kids like my Green and Red students (6-10 y.o.) are severely overburdened with works, works and works. They've got a complete set of courses to attend the whole week... you name it, from the standard English and Math to the more exotic like painting (for 3 year-olds!!!), ballet (OK, I had ballet class when I was 8 but it was strictly for fun, no competition), piano, arts and crafts and many such things. Once they're used to them, competitions come. It's the usual horrors, you know... Beauty Pageant for Children, Science Quiz, crazy things like those. WHAT FOR???!!!

The stupidest, and yet sadly, the most frequent answer is for the parents' sake. They want the satisfaction of being able to broadcast to the whole world that their children are prodigies.

Others, in the case of my higher levels students, are the impossible demands of this new generation. They must be perfect in just about every field. Back in our days, you must be good at some things, so that you can get a job. Simple as that.
But nowadays, you must excel at every field possible, because there are too many competitors and too few, not only job, but also school vacancies.

Yup, nowadays, those kids don't just compete for jobs, they now compete for a place in school. Man, am I glad I was born earlier.

Sigh.

On a more positive side.. Holiday's coming!!! Yahoo! We've got more than a week's off starting Monday - that makes almost two weeks, counting in this weekend.
As usual, no specific plans yet. Was doodling with my pencil when vigilating a test last week and I came up with this rough sketch that I'd like to follow up...

Boss had also approached me with this project I've been toying about but having no guts to propose it, I kept quiet. Now it was offered me, it was like.. WOW.

Let's just hope that something will get done. I'm pretty sure that when you look up the meaning of the saying 'The road to hell are paved with good intentions', the accompanying illustration will be me. Ha.
